Norristown State Hospital

I don't know what the story is behind Norristown State Hospital (or "The Nuthouse" as a politically incorrect coworker called it) but after checking out some old photos of the hospital online (for example here) I stopped by on a whim to see if any of the old buildings were still around. It's a sprawling, campus-like property, with long roads winding between massive brick buildings. A few of the hospital's buildings seem to be abandoned for some reason such as the one in the photo below.
 



It's fascinating to see the ornate tower on this massive (and abandoned) building with its wrought iron cresting.
